Over 50 and Blogging?
Jul 8, 2009 9:06 am by Cleo GilgenbachMy childhood memories include sitting at the kitchen table doing homework while my mom cooked dinner. If my homework included a report or essay paper, my resources were limited to our set of World Book encyclopedias. My, has that changed. Now, you can subscribe to the World Books online for less than $50 a year.
These day if I have an interest or question, I immediately go to the Internet and conduct a search. The search includes endless pages of results with numerous resources. Many of these are blogs. What a great resource for your personal and business needs.
A blog is a tool that allows you to quickly and easily create and publish content. It also allows the readers to leave feedback on the content as well as react to feedback from other readers. In 2008, 45% of the US population read blogs on a monthly basis. In 2013, 58% of the US population (over 128 million) is projected to be reading blogs on a monthly basis.
At first I thought blogging was more for my kids and their generation. All I could think of was, it's another thing to learn about. An AARP study cited that only 5 percent of bloggers are over 50 but this number is sure to increase.
But, just because you are not a teenager or college student doesn't mean that you can't blog. While the younger generation has Facebook and other social networks, there are blogs for pretty much every possible interest-including those applicable to baby boomers. There are blogs on financial issues, health, gardening, travel and pretty much every hobby/pastime. Heck, I even found a blog on midlife crises! Step out of the box, give it a try.
Please post a comment on my Blog. I would love to hear what you think. Thanks.
