Top Five Ways to Use Web Analytics
Feb 13, 2009 11:21 am by Lauren HaughWhen was the last time you checked your website statistics? Web stats or analytics say a lot about your customers, your industry, and the success of your website. Learn five ways to use web analytics to your company's advantage.
1. Monitor the number of visits your site receives. Track peaks and declines and consider reasons for changes, such as a recent sales promotion (peak) or outdated website content (decline).
TIP: Most analytics will count visits from within your company network or IP. For a more accurate number of website visitors, send your webmaster your IP address and ask them to exclude it from reports.
2. Determine your top landing pages. Not every visitor enters your website through the home page. By finding out what your top landing pages are, you may want to make adjustments to ensure you're sharing enough information to fully promote your company. Not happy with your top landing pages? Reevaluate the keywords targeted on that page and make changes to improve your position in search results.
3. Review your visitor's time spent per visit. If your visitors aren't spending much time on your site, it may be time to freshen the content on your site. Is it engaging? It is informative? Is there a clear call to action?
4. Discover keywords your customers are using to get to your site. The keywords that bring your customers to your site say a lot about your customer's needs. These keywords may give you ideas for new products or services to offer.
5. Monitor your visitor's geographic areas. Your web stats can help you learn more about where your potential customers live. It's much easier to reach your customers when you know where they are!
