Top Five Ways to Tweak Your SEO with Google Analytics
Jan 25, 2010 12:35 pm by Adam KnightEveryone wants to climb Google's ranks, but in order to get on the charts, you have to know what your customers are looking for. Sitepro's SEO department gives you a great start, and you can build on that momentum with these Google Analytics Tips:
1. See Your Visitors. Log in to Google Analytics (using the link Sitepro sent you - call us if you need a refresher!) and, after you've opened your report, click the Visitors link. This will give you the complete picture on your website's visitors. See what pages they've visited, and how long they spent there. Is there a page that's holding their interest? Why? And can you duplicate that effect on your other pages?
2. Browsing Bonus. Google Analytics will show you the exact breakdown of your visitor's web browsers. While Sitepro makes sure your site works with everything, it's still a good idea to see your site through your visitors' eyes. Try looking at your site through Firefox or Google Chrome. It might inspire some new ideas.
3. Trace your Traffic. So you have a dozen links pointing to your site, but are they doing any good? Is that Facebook page generating customers? Google Analytics will tell you exactly what is drawing traffic, so that you can focus efforts where they'll be most effective.
4. Keywords! Google Analytics gives you a clear view of what words people are searching for when they find your site. Take a look and make sure that these terms show up in your content, and if there's one that's not represented, add it into a new article or blog update.
5. Set Goals. Data is nothing without a goal to measure it. Google Analytics allows you to set goals for traffic and search, which gives you a much better idea of what searches and links lead to dollars, as well as where you are now compared to last year, and where you want to be in the future.
