Google Announces One-line Sitelinks

Apr 17, 2009 9:44 am by Lauren Haugh

The subsequent links that are sometimes displayed in a column-like fashion beneath the first listing in Google's search engine results pages (SERP), known as sitelinks, have received a makeover. Google announced yesterday that they've changed the way they do the now called one-line sitelinks.

Previously these links were associated only with the first position listing and were intended to provide multiple points of entry to a website - highlighting popular pages, providing direct access to specific internal pages, and proving especially useful for large sites. With this recent upgrade, the intention is still the same, but they’ve been enhanced to increase site visibility and traffic as well as to improve user experience.

Now, sitelinks can be displayed for multiple results of a single search query, not just the first position. As opposed to the column-like fashion, the one-line sitelinks will appear in a row above the page URL, and can display up to four links.
